What adult programs does The Forge offer?

  • ITF Taekwondo — Korean martial art with full belt progression. Mon/Wed/Fri 6:30 PM.
  • Krav Maga & Self-Defense — Israeli military system. Mon/Wed/Fri 7:30 PM, Tue/Thu 6:00 PM.
  • Muay Thai & Kickboxing — Thai stand-up striking. Tue/Thu 7:00 PM.

Is it too late to start martial arts as an adult?

No. Many of our most committed students started in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. See our full article on starting martial arts after 40. Research published by the National Institutes of Health shows traditional martial arts training improves cardiovascular fitness, balance, mental health, and bone density in adults of any age.

Which adult class should I start with?

Depends on your goal. Want traditional martial arts and belt progression? Adults Traditional (Mon/Wed/Fri 6:30 PM) — Shaolin Kung Fu and ITF Taekwondo blend. Want pure self-defense without forms? Krav Maga (Mon/Wed/Fri 7:30 PM or Tue/Thu 6:00 PM). Want stand-up striking and conditioning? Muay Thai & Kickboxing (Tue/Thu 7:00 PM). Most adults end up training across multiple programs over time.

I'm completely out of shape. Can I still start?

Yes. Every class scales to your current fitness level. You'll be challenged but never pushed beyond what's safe. Many of our students started with no fitness base and transformed their health through training.

Is this like cardio kickboxing?

No. This is real martial arts training with real techniques. You'll get an excellent workout, but the focus is on learning practical skills — not just calorie-burn. Every movement has a self-defense, traditional, or sport application.

How often should I train?

We recommend 2-3 classes per week to start. Membership includes unlimited classes, so as you build endurance you can train up to 6 days per week. Consistent attendance produces better skill development than sporadic high-volume bursts.
